Its not a hallucination, today one of my dreams has become a reality. Its now official, I am a small business owner! It's been an interesting journey up to this point and I'm looking forward to this next chapter of my professional and personal evolution. I'm starting this blog to document this journey and honor the many people who have influenced, supported, loved and been real with me. Also, I have a healthy obsession with skin care, education, and pretty much all things beauty (no matter how weird i.e. bird poop facials). I want to share my experiences and discoveries in the industry we call beauty and hopefully make the world a better place!
In 2004, I began my education at the New York Institute of Beauty. Up until that point, I was a lost twenty something just trying to find some purpose. A friend from college invited me to try a facial at the local beauty school NYIB. This would be my first facial and I didn't know what to expect but it was one of those moments that changed the course of my life. Up until then, skin care was just something I loved. I didn't think I could make a career out of it. Flash forward to the facial. I remember the esthetician in training asked "Would you like to add a glycolic peel for $10?" I didn't hesitate, "Yes Please!" I remember it felt spicy and itchy but also felt like it was really working. I hadn't experienced that sensation on my face before. When I got into my car I stared in the mirror and couldn't believe how smooth and refined my skin looked. I felt deeply renewed and not just my skin, I had discovered something that I was passionate about. Needless to say, it changed my life and put me on a path with purpose. I immediately told my friends and family, "I know what I want to do with my life!" I enrolled in their esthetician program a week later.
I'm writing this with a smile and now even more excited to continue sharing, but its late and I'm almost 40. I need some beauty rest. First tip: Sleep is everything to a complexion.
